  2. The metaphor in the story was when Proctor dropped a pinch of salt in the soup. He wanted more spice in the soup just like he wanted more spice in his marriage. That's why he cheated on his wife with Abigail.

The example of a hyperbole used in The Crucible is when they are discussing how big the farm is. The quote is "The farm's a continent when you go foot by foot dropping seeds in it". When you're walking on foot the farm seems bigger because it takes longer to walk across it.

  3. A metaphor in the Crucible is when they compare using the salt, saying the soup is nasty so then he adds salt, he is saying his marriage was kind of boring so he used Abigail to somewhat spice it up.

The hyperbole is where Proctor is saying that the farm is a continent when you go foot by foot dropping seeds in it. It isba hyperbole because the farm isnt a continent, he wasnt being literal about it and he was exaggerating.
